The third component of ProjectMED is an online database that directly connects students with opportunities for research, volunteering, or shadowing. For high schoolers and undergraduates alike, these are some of the most fundamental experiences that provide exposure to a STEM topic, yet oftentimes, it is the process of searching for a match that is most confusing and time-consuming. This database includes research faculty from Northwestern and Feinberg, as well as physicians or nonprofit organizations in the area. Similar to platforms like Handshake or Indeed, the student’s interests and eligibility could then be matched with the requirements given by the research group or institution. With this, students can jumpstart their pre-professional careers by applying their knowledge and taking ownership of their interests.
